Will’s Summer Plans

In Ecclesiastes 3, we read: “For everything there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven.” I am thankful to God for all the seasons of the year; having lived through my first Wisconsin winter, I feel even more grateful for the summer. I want to take a moment to share my summer plans and schedule with you.
I am not only looking forward to summer for the nice weather, but also because our family will be traveling a bit in late June and July.
In addition to summer travel, I will also embark on what will become an annual 6-week summer preaching sabbath, beginning on June 22. I’ll be back in the pulpit on August 3. I won’t be at church on June 22, July 13, and possibly not on July 20. Even though I am not preaching during those weeks, we’ll have the pulpit well covered. On June 22, we will hear testimonies from those who participated in the Guatemala mission trip. On June 29, we have the privilege and high honor of hosting Rev. Devon Borden Reynolds, executive presbyter of John Knox Presbytery, the regional governing body to which we belong. I am particularly excited for Sunday, July 6, when Clare Zaiman-Keen and Ruth Gissel will share about their recent trip to Greece organized by Jeff Quinto of the Bethel Bible Series. Pastor Ben will preach on July 13, and on July 20, Ben has organized a congregational hymn sing. Abby, who has preached on a few occasions, will close out the month on July 27 with a sermon on Hannah, the mother of the prophet Samuel.
I will be in and out of the office for the rest of June and July. Even though I won’t be preaching for six weeks, that doesn’t mean I’ll be away for the entire time. When I’m in town, I’ll be available if needed. I hope to use the preaching sabbath as an opportunity to begin drafting my PhD dissertation prospectus and the first chapter, both of which I plan to submit and defend in the fall. My hope and prayer is that all of you have a wonderful, blessed, and relaxing summer!
Grace and peace,
Will

In the journey of caregiving, the road can often feel lonely and overwhelming. The monthly meetings are dedicated to providing emotional, mental, and spiritual encouragement to those who care for aging parents, family members with chronic illnesses, or loved ones with disabilities.
If you’re a caregiver (current or previous), consider attending a meeting. The meetings are drop-in style. Newcomers are always welcome. You can choose to share or just listen. Meetings are in Room 204, once on the second Monday of the month at 6:30pm, and once on the second Saturday of the month at 10:00am. If one of these times does not work for you, please let us know. To learn more, contact Marcia Chase, marchase@icloud.com or call/text at cell # (334)444-6610 and leave a message during work hours. Or just drop in to a meeting.
Remember: You’re not alone, and it’s okay to take time to care for yourself too!

The Excitement is Building

This past Wednesday, our church was buzzing with energy as some truly amazing volunteers rolled up their sleeves to help transform our space for VBS—kicking off in just over a week! The excitement is building (literally!), and if you haven’t registered yet, don’t worry—there’s still time to jump in on the adventure!
FPC Communications Specialist, Chris Drake, Embarks on Journey at His Home Church

FPC is sad to share that our spectacular Communications Specialist, Chris Drake, will be moving on to a similar role at his home church in Sun Prairie. He has touched so many of us at FPC during his three-year tenure. Words others use to describe Chris include, “a delight; super-dependable; a calm presence; always exceeding my expectations.” He jumps in wherever there’s a need… from sound desk and back-up finance, to troubleshooting technical issues and absorbing administrative tasks after Alka retired… Chris is involved in everything!
Deacon, Lori Phelps, says it best: “Chris makes time for anyone that needs something. He would receive questions, concerns, and tears from the congregation, all with his God-given gifts of kindness and patience.”
Have you seen the colorful images on the outdoor electronic sign board and the beautiful VBS flyer in the Waunakee Tribune? Did you enjoy the incorporation of the new Youth Space mural within FPC’s recent annual report? This is the magic that Chris brings to his craft! We would like to thank Chris for his outstanding work and hope he knows how appreciative we are for his creative contributions. From FPC’s social media, the Connector, bulletin inserts, our website, recording funerals, and more… FPC benefits from Chris’ ability to connect people through communications.
Former Church Business Administrator Susan Gade says, “Chris was such a joy to work with! He was always pleasant, willing to try new things and take on additional responsibilities, is efficient, and a fast learner. My thanks and gratitude to Chris for his exemplary work while on staff at FPC. I wish Chris all the best, but he will be sorely missed by all at FPC Waunakee!” If you’d like to wish Chris well you can send him a message at cdrake@myfpc.org before his last day on Wednesday, June 25th. We are so grateful he is part of our FPC story, and know he will be a blessing to all he encounters in his new adventure.

Praise Song of the Week
This week’s praise song, Oceans (Where Feet May Fail), by Hillsong UNITED is a moving song about faith, trust, and surrender, inspired by Peter’s walk on water in Matthew 14. The lyrics depict stepping into deep waters—places beyond comfort—where faith alone sustains us. It reminds us that doubt may arise, but God remains faithful, calling us to trust Him completely. Just as Peter had to fix his eyes on Jesus to stay above the waves, we too must lean into His presence when life’s storms come. Oceans is an invitation to surrender, knowing that wherever He leads, His Spirit will guide and sustain us. May we step boldly into His calling, trusting that His love holds us firm, even when our own strength falters.

When life is hard you need more than a cute poster.

If you are having a tough time with:
• Dealing with family problems
• Chronic or terminal illness in your family
• Grief
• Loneliness
• Divorce recovery
FPC has a group of Stephen Minister Caregivers trained to walk with you through these problems. They help you think things through, find resources available, look for a Biblical view of the problem, pray for you and with you if you wish. The 50 hours of training have provided them with an understanding of reflective listening, boundaries, and the importance of absolute confidentiality.
Since its beginning in 2017, Stephen Ministries helped hundreds of people both from FPC and the wider community journey, through tough times. If you want more information, you can talk to a pastor, a deacon, or one of the active Stephen Ministers listed below.
