serve sunday
There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.”  1 Corinthians 12 4-6

Use your God-gifted time and talents to help in some of the most needed ways at FPC:

In the office:

Support the spiritual growth of FPC members and friends, by sharing in the management of FPC's Adult library located in the upstairs Gathering Space and downstairs Library room. Responsibilities include reshelving borrowed books, recommending and purchasing new materials, and encouraging library use within FPC. Contact Peter Zielski, Adult Growth & Spiritual Nurture Elder for more information.

As a Stephen Minister Caregiver:
Stephen Minister Caregivers are laypeople—Christian men and women—trained to provide one-to-one care to people experiencing a difficult time in life, such as grief, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, relocation, or separation due to military deployment. If you feel called to spend the time in 50+ hours of training to serve as a Stephen Minister Caregiver, please turn in your completed application to the church office.

FPC’s Stephen Ministry Training New Caregivers
FPC’s Stephen Ministry is seeking men and women from our congregation willing to be trained as Stephen Minister Caregivers. Class offering begins Tuesday, September 4, 2018 and will meet every subsequent Tuesday until December 11. Meeting time is 6:30-9:00pm at FPC.  In addition, there are three Saturday (daytime) retreats : September 22, October 6 and December 1.

What does it take? A passion for bringing Christ’s love and care to people during a time of need.

What kind of care is involved? Stephen Minister Caregivers are laypeople—Christian men and women—trained to provide confidential, one-to-one care to people experiencing a difficult time in life, such as grief, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, relocation, or separation due to military deployment. The Stephen Minister Caregiver is not a fixer, but a compassionate, excellent listener and spiritual encourager.

What is the commitment? Stephen Minister Caregivers commit to being available for 2 years. Typically they meet weekly with their care receiver for about an hour. They engage in twice-monthly supervision meetings to ensure that they are providing the best-quality Christian care. Initially, 50 hours of training is required covering topics such as listening, Christian assertiveness, maintaining boundaries, confidentiality, grief, suicide, depression and much more! Training materials cost each participant $50.

I am interested! What’s the next step? If you sense that God might be calling you to serve as a Stephen Minister Caregiver the first step is to find out more about getting involved. Please talk to a Stephen Leader or a pastor for more information. FPC Stephen Leaders include:
