The Personnel Ministry of First Presbyterian Church is responsible for providing for the administration of the employment program of the church, including hiring of ordained and non-ordained staff, ensuring fair employment practices & policies as well as annual review of the adequacy of compensation for all staff. From the Session approved policy addressing the philosophy of church staff oversight practiced at First Presbyterian, our aim is to:
- Hire good people and turn them loose for the Lord.
- Pour on the encouragement and the support!
- In hiring, look more for the who than the what
- Maintain operating principles with respect to the staff ministry team: respect, autonomy, trust, mutual support, & appreciation of the variety of gifts.
- Recognize that quality people respond to an inner sense of calling from God.
- Expect the work environment in the Church to feel different than a corporate office or for-profit business would feel.
- Recognize that churches usually can’t compete with the corporate or secular world when it comes to salaries and/or benefits, but that they can not only compete, but even win, in other areas of increasing importance to workers in:

If you are interested in volunteering an often-needed hand to our busy staff, some opportunities are:
- assist with large mailings
- occasionally fill in answering the office phones
- assist in creating or maintaining websites
- assist with projects which require using specific computer programs
- set up AV equipment – screen, projector & computer
- provide editing assistance and/or use Microsoft Publisher for the weekly worship Bulletin and monthly Connector newsletter
- help with word processing for occasional large typing jobs
