Mission Statement
"The mission of the Outreach Ministry Team is to introduce people to Jesus Christ, to equip the congregation to lead others to Him, and to welcome everyone into community and membership at First Presbyterian Church of Waunakee."
The Outreach Ministry Team links to the overall mission of First Presbyterian Church in the following way:
- Proclaim the good news = Introduce people to Jesus Christ
- Nurture his people in joyful faith = Equip the congregation to lead others
- Demonstrate His way = Welcome into our community
The Goals of the New Member Outreach Team are:
- Introducing non-believers to Jesus Christ is one way to “proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ so all may come to know and love Him”
- Equipping the congregation to share their faith stories and bring others to him “demonstrates His way of love in service to the world”.
- Welcoming and celebrating new believers and members in our church community serve to “nurture His people in joyful faith, fellowship and commitment”.
New Member Outreach is currently working in the following areas of ministry:
- New member classes:
Under the direction of the Outreach Committee, new member class structure and format has been developed. For 2008, new members can join by attending a five part consecutive series offered on Sundays between services. The classes focus on “Getting to know You”, “What is a Christian”, “What is a Presbyterian”, “Life at First Presbyterian Church”, and “Finding your place at First Presbyterian”. Generally, we offer four joining classes in Jan/Feb, April/May, July/August and Oct/Nov. For specific 2008 information, please go to the website Visitor Center link, New Member Classes.
- First Welcome Team/Visitor Contacts/Greeters:
We do have a group of church members that make phone contacts with visitors to our church after attending three of our Sunday services. Additionally, we have developed a “new visitor brochure” which can be found in the pews, or near the front entry to our church.
- Website Administration:
The Outreach Committee has direct accountability for the development and maintenance of our church website, www.myfpc.org.
- Live Nativity:
For the past eleven years, First Presbyterian Church has offered to the Waunakee area and surrounding communities a drive-by Live Nativity scene. Last year nearly 150 church volunteers assisted in the event that attracted an estimated 2500 visitors to the Live Nativity on a Saturday and Sunday evening. Generally, this takes place the weekend prior to Christmas. The actual dates will be posted within our website.
- Greeters:
We are currently developing a “greeter” group that will be located at our entrances prior to our Sunday services. Our goal is to have nearly 40 volunteers to “welcome” attenders at our worship services.
- Invite a Visitor Campaign:
New for 2007, the Outreach Team is planning to invite visitors to a special September Sunday Service. More information will be posted on the website at a later date.
Our New Member Outreach Ministry Team currently consists of six members; Elder: Keith Anderson, Pastor Susan Vergeront, Ann Boynton, Stan Vinge, Kay Miller, Paul Jacobson and Kathy Schlappi. This team generally meets on a monthly basis and continues to seek out and welcome new members.
