eDevotions ~~ Living in Hope
by Pastor Susan Vergeront

Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6

Sometimes things happen in our lives that devastate us – and we wonder where God is in all of this pain and despair. There are times when our faith seems to waiver, and we feel like perhaps God has abandoned us, or we have abandoned God.

This promise from Philippians is a balm for those concerns. It may seem like God has left, but He is still there. Things happen in his time; and it is not always on our time table. And it is for good – God can see way beyond our temporary discomfort and impatience. One of my favorite Christian songs written by Steve Green speaks to this- the lyrics are paraphrased:

If the struggle you're facing is slowly replacing your hope with despair
Or the process is long and you're losing your song in the night
You can be sure that the Lord has His hand on you
Safe and secure he will never abandon you
You are His treasure and He finds His pleasure in you
He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it!

Believe that and live in hope!
