“If you love me, obey my commandments” John 14:15

If we have to be obedient to truly love God, we all fail from time to time. But I think this goes deeper than a surface reading.graphic for Lent

When we truly love someone, we want to please that person. We don’t obey to prove our love. We obey, or do what our loved one wants us to do, because it pleases us to please our loved one.

So this “obedience” is more like doing those things that would make God happy. And the Lord knows that our obedience helps deepen our relationship.

But there’s more. When we are walking in the light with God’s love, we are the happiest. When we turn away, the darkness starts to come in, but all we need to do is turn back to the light, repent and confess, and the light of God shines on us and in us.

So obedience equals love - our love for God, AND God's love for us! Quite an equation!
